irony meter going off again

Republicans tend to have trouble with detecting irony in their statements. Most recent was Palin: “No administration in America’s history would, I think, ever have considered such a step that we just found out President Obama is supporting today. It’s kinda like getting out there on a playground, a bunch of kids, getting ready to fight, and one of the kids saying, ‘Go ahead, punch me in the face, and I’m not going to retaliate. Go ahead and do what you want to with me.'”

All the while wearing a cross necklace so that she would seem Christian (and also apparently pretending to be a parent, but that’s another dimension of irony). In that case, the analogy is kind of bad isn’t it. I’m sure Jesus would have a somewhat different answer to her kids on a playground scenario. Perhaps he would say “Turn the other cheek and then punch the other kid!” Yup, that’s what Jesus would do.

When you want to pretend to be Christian, you got to make your analogies so that they don’t conflict with what you are pretending to believe in. Palin might believe that she is Christian, but that doesn’t change my opinion that she is only pretending to be one. It’s a common ailment.

(It’s similar to the republicans saying how the original census was better because the founding fathers cared more about liberty because the census only asked questions such as “how many slaves do you own”)
