Franken …

Filed under: Politics — jlebl @ 7:21 pm

I read so much complaining by republicans on how terrible it is that Franken got elected because he’s “too left wing” or “too liberal.”  Bar one socialist senator, it is hard to find actual left wingers in congress.  There’s just center-right (democrats) and far-right (that other party).

  1. I don’t find that the Democrats and the Republicans actually differ that much in substance. They keep the disagreements down to some fairly symbolic issues (abortion and guns, mostly) so that they can get on with the business of promoting unregulated capitalism while maintaining a pretense of meaningful debate. A two party system is only 1 better than a one party system.

There are a couple of people in there like Ron Paul who don’t toe the line, but they tend to be irrational and verging on insane. Modern socialist democratic political discussion is basically entirely absent 😦

    • Ron Paul is not verging on insane. He is far beyond the boundary of sanity.

I do worry less about my own well being if the democrats are in power. I’m definitely not convinced that either party will be good for those not smart enough to be born into the right family and social class. I can’t understand why some people insist on being born to poor parents of non-white color. I suppose I got stupidly born into a dictatorship, but I was only 11 years off, so it didn’t turn out all that bad.

      • I guess I was trying to be polite about Ron Paul. Respect for your senile elders and all that…

The Democrats do seem less inclined to fuck with your personal life, at least these days. You are a True American Success Story since you’re a (white) immigrant from an eeevil country who made good! USA! USA!
